During this time, great attention was paid to fine execution and finishing, and the art of the inlay was especially refined. In contrast to the sumptuous furniture of preceding stylistic eras, the rational Louis XVI furnishings are typified by a simple elegance. Typical for this stylistic period is the vertical fluting of the pilasters, as well as the artful veneer images that are assembled by hand.
